What to Bring

  • We suggest you pack light and remember that there are stores within close proximity that will have most necessities.  The wet season runs from April through mid November.  The dry season means hardly any rainfall in Santa Teresa.  Temperatures in Santa Teresa are between 70 – 90 degrees Fahrenheit year round (21 – 34 degrees Celsius). Temperatures in other parts of the country are also moderate, but can be brisk at night depending on the altitude of that town.

  • Passport with at least 3-6 months validity (bring photocopies in case original is lost).

  • Drivers license or alternate ID.

  • For US Residents, no need to change money before arriving at The Jungle House as almost all of the country accepts the US Dollar.  If you pay with dollars, many places will not give you the full value of the dollar as they will typically knock off about 5% (including the Money Exchange located at the baggage claim of the Costa Rican Airport).  For the best exchange rate, you can visit the local bank in  town.  Be leery of exchanging money on the streets as many times you will get counterfeit currency.  Approximate Exchange rate is 550 Colones = 1 US Dollar.  For the exact exchange rate, go to http://wwp.greenwichmeantime.com/time-zone/america/costa-rica/currency.htm

  • International calling cards available in town, or you can call from your laptop if you subscribe to Skype or a similar program.

  • Surf Items:  Tropical wax, rash guard, SPF 40 + waterproof sunscreen, Suncure, an extra leash, and minimum 2 pairs of surf trunks.

  • Toiletries:  Toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, shaving gear (put your spill able toiletries in Ziploc bags; less than 3 oz. if its a carry on item).

  • First Aid:  Water proof bandaids, Neosporin, nu-skin, ibuprofen, hydro-cortisone cream, zinc oxide (for the fair skinned), lip sunscreen, Chapstix, prescription medication if applicable. The local pharmacy in town will diagnose minor medical issues and recommend medication.

  • Sneakers for the rocky and wet hike to the waterfall.

  • Beach Towels

  • Sandals, hat, sunglasses, poncho (wet season April – November), hiking boots for those so inclined.

  • Outlets are US Standard 110 volt
